Want to learn Short Deck Poker for the first time?
Do you play Short Deck and want to improve?

This "Short Deck Poker" book is suitable for total beginners and also experienced players wanting to level up their game strategy.
Short Deck poker is also known as 6+ Hold 'em. There is only the card 6 and upwards in play, hence being a "short deck".
The way the game plays is very similar to No Limit Texas Hold 'em.

With the “Short Deck Poker” book you will learn key strategies that can improve your game.
Clear instructions and graphics provides

Basic Concepts
Pre Flop Theory
Post Flop Theory
Hand Charts

With over 100 hands simply illustrated (including the chances of winning), you will quickly understand real world examples and see how to improve.

We have put many hours into creating this for you, to provide all the calculations and strategy points. You can save your time, rapidly learn from the examples, rather than doing all the calculations yourself. Quickly learn the critical strategy and then concentrate on applying it to your game.

We have listed and ranked all the different hand types you can have on the flop. You can look for a particular hand, e.g. Three of a kind, or a straight draw, and read about that situation, and see the equity calculations (who is most likely to win).

Hand charts also give you a rapid way to ditch the hands that lose you chips and focus on playing the hands suitable for the situation.

Over 12 pages of Glossary, give detailed explanation of all the terms used.

About the Author:

I'm Philip Diamond, and I have written the book “Short Deck Poker”.

I have played No Limit Hold 'em and Pot Limit Omaha for many years, both online and live. As I have continued to play, I have made many notes, done many poker calculations (worked out who would win more often in situations) and learnt loads of strategy.

I've always wondered how I would enjoy playing another variation of Poker.

Since being introduced to Short Deck
I fell in love with the game.

I learnt how I could play more hands pre flop (more fun!), how I could be ‘all in’ pre flop (what I find most exciting), and how much more action (betting) there was. It was a revelation!

I am hoping that by spreading the word about how exciting and entertaining this game can be, it will also inspire others to start playing.

There weren't many resources available to study the game of Short Deck so I decided I would create my own book, including all the calculations, and study, so other players could learn how to improve.

The book is written in such a way that beginners just starting out can get a quick understanding of the game and what it takes to win pots. It is also helpful for No limit Hold 'em players who are looking to starting playing short deck.

Definitely. The rules and how the game is played is covered at the beginning, along with general principles, and starting strategy. If you are already experienced at other forms of poker you can likely move more rapidly through the beginning rules section and dive into the strategy.

How long would I need to study the book?

It varies, however I think you could complete the first read in a couple of weeks, alongside the rest of your life.

Weekend - Rules and beginning section.
Week 1 - Pre flop strategy, along with starting Post flop strategy
Week 2 – Remainder of Post flop strategy, plus River Strategy
Sections can be revisited after you have played more, and want to learn about a particular topic again.

How complicated is the book?

It's been written to be as accessible as possible to both beginners and experienced players. There is a comprehensive glossary, to cover any terms you aren't familiar with. It can serve as a good reference and following playing of the short deck game, relevant sections can be re-read to improve even more.

Do I need to know any complicated math to get started?

The maths for all of the examples has been done for you. It already shows the percentages in the equity calculations. See the example below.

K K (Your Hand) 72.10% Chance to Win vs

8 8 (Opponent's Hand) 27.90% Chance to Win

There is a section on River play that involves some basic arithmetic but a table with calculations has been provided, so it's not essential.

You don't require knowledge of advanced topics.

Do I need any tools or apps to work through the examples and strategies?

No, you don't have to spend any more money on additional tools or apps to get the most out of this book. For those who want to explore more, there are equity calculators and other simulation apps, available separately.

Will I need to understand solver programs, or solver outputs?

No, it's not necessary to understand these concepts to understand this book.

Will the book make me a winning player?

Winning at a strategy game such as Poker involves many different factors. Whilst we can't guarantee a win (as many a poker player can understand), we do hope you can see the value in improving your game, and putting yourself in the best possible situations to win those pots! If you are currently losing, with study it's possible to either lose less, extending your sessions, or maybe break even. Once you get in a position whereby you are more knowledgeable and can play better than your opponents, it is possible to win money from them.

What sort of electronic device would I need to play poker online?

Most online poker sites allow you to play from many different devices, such as:

PC / Laptop / Tablet / Phone

The experience is usually optimised for whatever device you are on.

Can you recommend anywhere I can play Short deck Poker / 6+ Hold'em?

There aren’t any listings in the book. We recommend visiting Shortdeckplay.com to find online Poker sites where you can play.
